How to get sorted, step by step
- Check your passport has at least six months validity from the day you arrive - this is the requirement that most often stops Australians boarding.
- Do not buy an e-Visa. Australians have been visa-exempt since 17 April 2026 and the third-party sites still selling them are charging for nothing.
- Have your return ticket and accommodation details available.
- If you plan to drive, get an International Driving Permit in Australia before you leave.
What catches Australians out
Australians have been visa-exempt since 17 April 2026. Third-party sites still advertising a "Turkey e-Visa for Australians" are selling a document you do not need - use only official government sources.
The exemption covers ordinary passports for tourism and transit. Holders of official, diplomatic or service passports still need a visa.
Six months of passport validity from your arrival date is enforced at check-in, not just at the border.

Health cover for Australians in Türkiye
Australia has no reciprocal health care agreement with Türkiye. Private hospitals in Istanbul and the coastal resorts are good but expect payment or an insurer guarantee up front.
Vaccinations: No vaccinations required. Routine Australian immunisations recommended; hepatitis A is worth discussing with your doctor.
Medications: Carry prescriptions in original packaging with a copy of the script. Some medicines that are over the counter in Australia are controlled here.

How these comparisons are made
Entry rules on these pages come from the destination's own immigration authority first, Smartraveller second, and the destination's embassy in Australia third - each page links the exact sources it used. An automated job re-reads those government pages every day and moves the review date only when a person or the checker has confirmed the page still says what we say it says. Türkiye entry requirements FAQs
Do Australians need a visa for Turkey?
No, not since 17 April 2026. A presidential decision removed the visa requirement for holders of ordinary Australian passports travelling for tourism or transit. You can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period with nothing to apply for.
Do I still need a Turkey e-Visa as an Australian?
No. The e-Visa requirement for Australians ended on 17 April 2026. Third-party websites still selling a "Turkey e-Visa for Australians" are charging for a document you do not need - check the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or your nearest Turkish consulate.
How long is my passport valid enough for Turkey?
It must have at least six months validity from your date of arrival. Airlines check this at Australian check-in, so a passport with five months left will stop you boarding regardless of how short your trip is.
