Prices are indicative, shown in AUD and refreshed from provider APIs where available. Always confirm the final price on the provider's site - it is the price that applies. We may earn a commission if you buy through our links, which never changes what you pay. Partners are listed before providers who pay us nothing, as our terms set out; sorting by price ignores all of that and orders on the number alone. How we make money.

How these comparisons are made
Routes, operators, journey times and fares come from the operators' own published timetables and pricing, compared in AUD. Public transport options are listed alongside bookable transfers because the train is often the honest answer - and where a booking platform is listed, it's one Jamie has personally booked through. Laos airport transfer FAQs
Do Australians need a visa for Laos?
Yes. Australians need a tourist visa, available on arrival at the main airports and major land borders for around USD $35 in cash with a passport photo, or as an eVisa applied for online at least three days before you fly. It permits a 30-day stay, extendable once.
Should I get the Laos eVisa or a visa on arrival?
The eVisa costs about the same and removes the airport queue and the need for exact cash and a photo. Apply only at laoevisa.gov.la - private sites charge a substantial markup for the same document. If you are crossing by land, check first that your specific border post issues visas on arrival, because not all do.
When should I avoid visiting Laos?
March and April. Agricultural burning across the north creates severe haze that regularly closes Luang Prabang airport, hides the mountain scenery entirely and is genuinely unpleasant to breathe. November to February is the best window.
